Andre Ward Grinds Out Tough Victory Over Sakio Bika

Congrats to Pound 4 Pound Apparel and Oakland's own Andre Ward who gave Sakio Bika a little taste of his own medicine with a greuling unanimous decision victory this past Saturday night in Oakland, California. Ward won 118-110 on the cards of Jon Schorle and Hunter Walton, and, 120-118, on that of Marty Sammon.

Ward, a 2004 Olympic Gold Medalist, rose to 23-0 with 13 knockouts with the victory over Bika, a fight in which both fighters were cut, and featured frequent infighting and more than the occassional accidental head clash.  The early rounds were tougher than usual for the normally dominant Ward, who seemed to have a hard time adjusting to Bika's unorthodox style.

"You have to get through this if you're going to be great," said Ward. "I'm far from it, but I'm trying to get there."

Although this fight was held outside of the Super Six World Boxing Classic, Ward moves on to fight Armenian slugger Arthur Abraham in the tournament semi-finals. The fight will take place in the 1st quarter of 2011, with the site yet to be determined.
